Student Background

Please email a copy of your student's IEP or 504 to [email protected].

Some of the Northwest Indiana Online School (NWI Online School) Parent/Guardian Guidelines. Part 1 of 2.

  • I understand my child and I must attend an orientation meeting (held virtually or in person)

  • I understand my child and I must attend an Onboarding Session (held virtually or in person)

  • I will monitor my student’s academic progress and keep in close communication with the NWI Online School teacher(s) and staff.

  • I will check my email and make sure my child checks their email every day Monday - Friday

  • I commit my student to be placed in NWI Online School for a minimum of one semester.

  • I will provide my student transportation to and from school for required in person testing/activities.

  • I will provide access to reliable wi-fi daily during school/work hours for my student.

  • I will provide a secure and safe study environment for my student to engage in online instruction.

  • First Eight Days of Class: First Eight Days of Class: I understand that my student is expected to log in and participate in live class sessions for the first eight (8) days of classes each semester. This will allow them to meet their teacher and participate in orientation to understand the expectations for each class.

    1. After the first eight (8) days of class, my child may utilize the live sessions, recorded sessions, and other resources provided.  As long as my child stays on pace each week, my child will have flexibility to complete assignments at a pace that works for them.

    2. If my child gets off pace and is no longer in good status, they may be expected to participate in live sessions and/or log in for a set amount of time each day and/or week. (Good status consists of being on pace (on track) in at least 50% of your assigned classes.)

    3. A good rule of thumb for staying on pace is to log in to each class each day or plan to 'go to school' for a minimum of 20-25 hours per week. Some classes may take longer than others. It is really about the class, the subject and the individual student.

  • My student will be in attendance with camera on for the expected live remote/Zoom instruction.

  • I will make sure my child stays on pace and in Good Standing.

Additionally, if enrolling after the start of the semester, I am aware the following will take place:

  • Any grades or course progress completed at my child's current school will not transfer.

  • My child will start the semester over in the online environment and still be required to complete the 18 weeks of the course by the scheduled end of the semester.

  • My child's schedule and course options may change from current enrollments due to limited choices in the virtual learning platform.
