Frequently Asked Questions

Is Northwest Indiana Online School IHSAA (Athletics) accredited?

To meet IHSAA requirements, students residing in the DSC boundaries participating in extracurricular activities must take IHSAA-approved courses through Edmentum AND enroll in and pass at least one course (one credit) per semester at Chesterton High School every academic year.

Additionally, students must take at least one course at CHS during their freshman year or one semester before participating in CHS Athletic programs. For example, if a student plans to play Fall Football, they must enroll in at least one class at CHS during their freshman year or enroll in one class during their second semester of their freshman year to be eligible to play in their sophomore year. They must continue enrollment in at least one class per semester each year in order to continue participation in a sport.

Is Northwest Indiana Online School NCAA Accredited?

Northwest Indiana Online School is not recognized as an approved NCAA institution, yet. Consequently, the courses offered at NWI Online do not fulfill the requirements for NCAA athletic eligibility for Division I & II athletic programs. If a student plans to maintain academic eligibility for college athletics participation, they should reconsider and enroll in Chesterton High School or the high school within their legal boundaries.

Can my child participate in Extra and Co Curricular Activities within the Duneland School Corporation?

Your child must live within the Duneland School Corporation boundaries. If they do not, they are not eligible to participate in Duneland School’s extra-curricular or co-curricular activities.

If your child DOES live within the DSC boundaries, they are eligible to participate in extra and co-curricular activities through the Duneland School Corporation as long as they meet the established criteria per each school.

.

When are live sessions available?

Edmentum will provide live sessions every day Monday - Thursday. Teachers and Edmentum support are available on Fridays, but they do not conduct live sessions.

How is attendance tracked?

In short, after the first 8 days of class, if a student is in good status (on pace) then the student has flexibility when to work on assignments. Once a student moves to warning and/or probation, then we begin to really look into attendance. Typically, falling behind in classes equates to not spending enough time working on assignments in a specific class. Attendance is typically monitored Monday-Friday, but we will consider time on the weekends if feasible.
